What’s In, What’s Out, and What Actually Feels Good
This year, interior design is about balance – between old and new, bold and minimal, functional and gorgeous.
You’re going to see a shift towards warmer, moodier colors, sculptural furniture pieces, and richer textures. And while some old trends (looking at you, all-white kitchens) are taking a backseat, others – such as mixing eras and embracing high contrast – are making homes feel more interesting than ever.
So if you’re as passionate as I am about creating a home that’s not only stunning but also green and sustainable (because we love a good eco-moment), you’re in for a treat. We’re talking sophisticated, bold, high-contrast interiors that marry style and sustainability in the most incredible way possible.
So grab a cup of coffee, get comfy, and let’s dive into the trends that will redefine how we live and love our spaces!

TRENDING STYLES
1. Sophisticated Maximalism
First up, sophisticated maximalism is taking over. Think less clutter, more curation. We are seeing rich textures, bold colors, and statement pieces (like green sofas) in a thoughtful, curated way. I love how this style creates a space that’s luxurious yet inviting.

2. JAPANDI
The marriage of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian coziness is still going strong. We mix warm woods and neutral textures with clean lines to create an understated elegance. My favorite part? It’s peaceful, uncluttered, and easy on the eyes.
3. VINTAGE & RETRO
When I say vintage and retro, I think of European nostalgia. I see the beautifully tiled stoves in old countryside villas or the gilt plastered mirrors with a hint of patina – they create an air of romantic drama without being excessive. Antique porcelain knobs on doors or dressers can add a touch of history even the most simple piece of furniture. Do not forget old mosaic tiles or terracotta floors that remind one of a Mediterranean courtyard. These touches create a feeling of comfort and timelessness that can not be replicated by modern replicas.
4. SUSTAINABLE LUXURY
Being fancy doesn’t have to mean ignoring the planet. We’re seeing luxe materials like reclaimed wood, recycled metals, and organic fabrics come together in sophisticated ways. High-end can also be eco-conscious, and that’s a win-win in my book.
5. BIOPHILIC DESIGN 2.0
We’re past the “add a plant and call it biophilic” stage. Now, it’s about feeling like integrating nature in every possible way. We’re talking living walls, natural light, and materials that make your space feel in sync with the earth. I’ve noticed people craving that indoor-outdoor vibe more than ever.
Bocci lamps are a perfect example of biophilic design. Their softly sculpted shapes and natural fluidity mimic organic forms in nature, which naturally soothes the eye and the mind.
I love how each fixture appears to be a delicate flower. It’s all art, form and that calming, indoor-outdoor sensation we are craving for.
Ay Illuminate is another brand that impresses me with its use of natural materials and handmade methods producing lighting that feel both grounded and ethereal, capturing the essence of organic beauty in sleek simplicity.

COLORS
6. MOODY & DARKER COLOR PALETTES
Neutrals are not out, but getting deeper and richer. Deep olive, earthy charcoal, aubergine, and dark blues are replacing sterile whites and beiges. Rooms feel warm, intimate, and cocoon-like. I love it because it makes a space feel grounded.

7. MID-TONE WOODS
Think walnut, teak, and oak, not too light and not too dark. These shades bring warmth and timeless beautywithout feeling heavy. I tend to pair them with crisp white for a balanced, welcoming ambience.

Coffee tables are an easy way to incorporate mid-tone wood. My personal favourite, the Ellison Studio Yoko Coffee Table, offers a minimalist design with a beautiful walnut finish.
8. HIGH CONTRAST INTERIORS
High contrast interiors are about pairing opposites to create visual excitement – light vs. dark, glossy vs. matte. I love how this sharpens any design, so the details stand out. It is dramatic but still livable. Just make sureto keep the overall look cohesive, so you don’t end up with a jarring mismatch.

9. colors in KITCHENS
We are finally moving beyond the all-white kitchen. Deep blue, pastel pink, burundy or green cabinetry, you name it. A couple of years ago, I used to think it would be too much, but it is actually super cozy and classy.
10. JEWEL TONES IN FURNITURE
Rich emeralds, sapphires, and amethysts on sofas or armchairs are stealing the spotlight. They instantly turn a plain room into a showstopper. I say go for that bold velvet sofa – life is too short for boring neutral furniture.
MATERIALS
11. TEXTURED TILES
Glossy subway tile? We’ve seen enough. We’re adding dimension with raised patterns, 3D effects, and layered finishes. It’s a small detail that can completely upgrade a backsplash, bathroom floor, or even your fireplace.
12. TRANSLUCENT MATERIALS
Frosted glass, fluted glass, and glass walls give a room an airy, almost futuristic feel. I love the way they filter light while still maintaining some sort of privacy. Ideal for rooms that need a little extra light or a chic, modern twist.
13. MIXING in METALS
You can combine brushed brass, polished chrome, or blackened steel to add visual depth. I love how it feels so effortlessly cool – like you’re breaking the rules but making it work.
FURNITURE
14. CURVED & ORGANIC SHAPES
I am completely obsessed with furniture that is gently curved and organic in form. It adds a homely, welcoming feel that is both stylish and easy to live with.
My number one favourite 2025 brand is Ellison Studios, whose beautiful curvy pieces leave me breathless.
“We crave that human element that is round and soft, and sensual in a way.” – Sarah Ellison said.
15. MODULAR FURNITURE
We want spaces that suit our needs. Today’s modular pieces let you shake up the arrangement every now and then. I absolutely love how modular furniture pieces enable you to change the atmosphere of a room so easily.
16. STATMENT RUGS
Rugs are have a big time these days. Vibrant patterns and even sculptural shapes can completely anchor a room. Sometimes I ditch artwork altogether and let the rug do all the talking.
And my personal favourites are from Moooi.
17. INVISIBLE TECHNOLOGY
Tech is getting smarter and less visible. Hidden cables, sleek sound bars, and smart devices that can hidden are the new standard. Trust me, it’s a game-changer when it comes to having a clean, sophisticated look.
DETAILS
18. textured walls
Move beyond plain paint with fabrics, plasters, or even wood paneling. Textured walls add cozy depth and are a true talking point. Just be mindful of the finish so that your living room is not converted into a rough course for little ones.
19. STATEMENT CEILINGS
Look up! Ceilings with bold colors, wallpaper, or architectural details create a major wow factor. I’ve used this trick to draw attention upward and make a room feel expansive – plus, it’s an instant conversation starter.
20. STATEMENT LIGHTING
Instead of generic fixtures, experiment with oversized pendants, sculptural lamps, or unique chandeliers. Proper lighting can literally transform how a room feels at any hour. For me, it is the perfect way to combine form and function with a dash of drama.
